The Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF) is a non-profit organization that helps St. Lucie County residents and businesses finance energy efficiency projects at low cost. They are offering a credit restoration seminar on Nov. 5, at their office in Fort Pierce and have two programs in St. Lucie County to provide low cost loans for energy-related property improvements.

Residential Program

Homeowner’s are eligible for low cost financing to help identify and make cost-effective home energy retrofits. Financing is available for replacing air conditioning units, weatherization, insulation, solar water heater, solar panels, windows, doors and much more. Minimum credit score required for the program is 500, must have ability to document and source monthly income. Call (772) 468-1818 for details.

Commercial Program

Business owner, non-profits, industrial and agricultural and multi-family property owners can save a significant amount on business operating costs through PACE. PACE is a St. Lucie County program administered through SELF that will provide upfront financing for improvements to business properties if improvements are to make the property more energy efficient or will have systems installed for renewable energy, wind hazard mitigation and water conservation projects. This is made possible by having a voluntary land-secured assessments placed on the property, similar to repayment procedures for street lighting districts, water and sewer connections, storm water and infrastructure projects, and other neighborhood improvements. The new PACE program expands these alternative financing options into the energy, water, wind hazard mitigation and sustainability sectors. Business credit not needed. Taxes on the property must be current and have equity.
