Residential Network member the Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF), a nonprofit clean energy financing provider for low- and moderate-income Florida households, surpassed $5 million in total lending for home upgrades in 2016. Since its creation in 2010, SELF has enabled more than 600 homeowners to affordably upgrade their homes and lower their energy costs. After receiving $2.9 million in seed funding as a DOE Better Buildings Neighborhood Program grantee in 2010, St. Lucie County, Florida, established SELF and leveraged that investment to attract additional capital, including mission-driven investments from community banks, foundations, impact investors, faith-based organizations, and worldwide crowdfunding.
